My name is John Bennett, and I will be bringing a weekly album review your way!
American Football LP2
By: American Football
First off I am 19 years old, and never did I think I would get to write a review for a band who had their last release when I was 2! I'm talking about American Football, the band that paved the way for sad boy culture before some of us were even born.
When clicking play on their second self titled full length you get reminded of a so familiar rhythmic plucking of the guitar strings. The first track "Where Are We Now?" Is almost like picking up directly from their 1999 album. It's amazing how they kept the sound and still managed to have music sound unique.
Every track on this album is magnificent it's hard to write an article and not a novel because each one is so unique and melodic. It keeps you wondering if it takes 17 years to write this well or if they are just geniuses.
This album is almost perfect, however it sometimes seems slow or that some songs have a similar melody or similar component. Which that is hard to avoid in songwriting, and it's also something happened on their last album. With that being said it could be a trend or something in the long run we just haven't noticed and we will see in another 17 years with a third release.
I recommend this album to fans of Turnover, Modern Baseball, Citizen, La Dispute and really anyone who likes the melodic sad music that for some reason makes you happy.
