This is a question I’ve been asked all my life. When it comes to music, I’m everywhere. I absolutely adore Music Photography, I’ve been writing lyrics since middle school, singing since I could speak, going to as many shows as I possibly could, the list goes on and on and even includes having my own radio show on WJEL 89.3. I fell in love with every aspect of music, from the sound of notes themselves to the world that surrounds it.
I’ve met some of my best friends through music, especially at shows. A show is the one place I can be surrounded by a sea of people I don’t know, and still feel at home. You can be from anywhere and any background and fit in at a venue seeing your band of choice. Shows are the one place everyone goes to for the same reason. Get lost, find yourself in the music.
Listening to music is one of the few things that can allow someone to forget any of the bullshit going on in their lives. It’s one thing anyone can connect over and agree is an escape from reality. No matter how emotionless someone may seem, music can bring something out. You learn a lot about someone through their music choices.
Music can do incredible things that nothing else can. Music can bring millions together for great causes, music can change lives, music can save, and it can do so much more.
Music is an incredible form of expression. You can create anything and mean anything all through a few notes. There is no filter when it comes to a song, you can express everything that’s been subdued or shoved away inside of you. You can let everything out through a simple song, be that writing one or listening to one.
So when people ask me, why the music industry, my answer is simple. The industry may be laced with some horrible things, but what industry isn’t? I chose music because it’s my home. I feel most alive when I’m behind a camera at a show creating art out of art itself. Capturing raw moments of passion is what I live for, and you can’t find those anywhere but on a stage. Out of anything I could be in life, I chose this because it’s where I feel alive. I would never fit in at an office behind a computer screen all day. I fit in anywhere I’m creating, and the music industry is the one place that has endless opportunities.
I’m a person who’s been put down and asked why all my life when I say this is what I do. At the end of the day, millions of people could say, “You’ll never make it” and you still can. The one thing I’ve learned throughout my journey is that if you put enough hard work and passion into what you do, you can make it regardless of who says otherwise. If you want to be something, be it. Eat it, sleep it, dream it, do it. Nothing can stop you but yourself. If you can dream it, you can be it. I’ve lived by this motto all my life and day by day my dreams slowly be reality.
I guess what I’m trying to say is the music industry is a community that changed my life for the better and molded me into who I am today. Music has the power to do anything. Music is music, and it’s one of the greatest creations man kind has ever made and that is why I chose to follow it.
